Movie Review: Gone Girl

gone-girl-posterBy Derek Krayenhagen—One of the best thrillers of 2014, Gone Girl grabs your attention early and keeps it throughout the over two-hour runtime. Gone Girl is the story of a man whose wife goes missing. At first the support comes flying in for him in his time of tragedy but as Nick Dunne’s (Ben Affleck) emotions don’t match up with one who just lost his wife, the community and world start to turn on him wondering did Nick Dunne kill his wife?

The greatest strength is the storyline. Gone Girl is exciting throughout the whole movie mostly due to the loops and turns the story throws at you. Gone Girl will keep you guessing from start to finish. Ben Affleck is great and Rosamund Pike as Amy Dunne is outstanding. The biggest weakness of the movie is Neil Patrick Harris who makes a cameo and he just doesn’t fit the part well enough. As a NPH fan I hate to say it but that was a bad cast on the side of the executives of Gone Girl.

With the two hour run time, Gone Girl doesn’t quite feel like it’s that long. Since Gone Girl was a 2014 release it could be hard to find on TV so those with Dish can probably see it on one of the movie channels or it could be bought on pay per view.

One of my favorite movies of all time, the award winning picture Gone Girl is one that shouldn’t disappoint. Movie lovers everywhere should put this edgy drama on their to watch list.
