Television Review: House M.D.

indexBy Dominique Swanson—House M.D. is a series that ran from 2004-2012 that follows the lives of a group of doctors on a special diagnostics team that works to solve cases no one else is able to.

Hugh Laurie stars as Dr. Gregory House, a Vicodin addicted genius-doctor who walks with the assistance of his cane.

This series is unique from other medical dramas because unlike spending so much time in operating rooms and seeing gory details, you get to spend more time watching the wreck less behavior of House and his colleagues.

In most shows it is easy to dislike the ‘sarcastic asshole’ character, but somehow Hugh Laurie delivers a snarky doctor that leaves you smiling after seeing him tell his best friend Wilson that he is an idiot.

House is known for his blatant disregard for authority and egocentric opinion of himself, yet manages to maintain his friendship with his only friend Wilson and the respect of his team.

This series comes highly recommended for its well-developed characters and unique perspective on the inner workings a diagnostics team.

Each episode invites you in on the medical mystery on a new patient while also following the mind games House plays on the members of the hospital. Watching the methods of House is much like seeing a doctor version of Sherlock Holmes using a non-traditional approach to finding inspiration.

Something to be appreciated about this series is that it can be watched at leisure, without a major need to watch each episode in order. There is an ongoing story with the characters lives, but each episode still provides a singularly enjoyable viewing experience.

This series can be found on Netflix and is a must see for anyone who enjoys a character that is loveably rude and a show with many mysteries and mind games to be solved.
