Movie Review: Whiplash

maxresdefaultBy Derek Krayenhagen—With incredible performances from a young upstart in Miles Teller and a more veteran player in J.K. Simmons, Whiplash grabs you in from the opening scene and never lets go.

Whiplash is the story of Andrew Niemann (Teller) and his conductor Fletcher (Simmons). Fletcher seems to go Full Metal Jacket on many of his students when they don’t give the performance that is up to his standards. This is his way of pushing the envelope for perfection. When he pushes young Andrew, does Andrew break or will he become the next Charlie Parker?

Whiplash is now out on DVD and Blu-ray. You can either buy it or rent it through select movie channels. It has a run time of about an hour and forty seven minutes. When I watched it went by so fast because the story is so gripping. Whiplash does a great job of holding your attention.

I can’t say anything really bad about Whiplash. The dialogue and script are awesome. J.K. Simmons and Miles Teller both give Oscar winning performances. The only weakness could be if you aren’t much for swearing then this movie might not be for you.

This is one of my favorite movies that I’ve seen and one I would definitely recommend seeing. The music scenes are great and Simmons’ dialogue is almost poetical. The combination of the two makes Whiplash a hit that people won’t be able to forget.
