App Review: Plant Nanny

icon175x175By Kayla Perkins–If you are the type of person who likes to drink water, forgets to drink water, or wants being healthy to be fun, Plant Nanny is the app for you.

Plant Nanny is a health app created by Fourdesire that reminds you to drink water throughout the day. When you do drink water, you water your plant, which will grow or die depending on how much water you drink each day.

It was named #1 App of 2013 in the App Store. It is available for Android and Apple devices. Plant Nanny has well over 3 million downloads, and is the number one app in Health and Fitness in 22 countries.

Plant Nanny promotes healthy living by determining how much water you should drink based on your weight and activity level. When you start the app, you will input both, and it will determine how many fluid ounces you should drink a day to be healthy. You can input different measurements of water depending on how much you drink at a time.

Every time you record drinking water on the app, it will water your plant. The goal of the app is to drink enough to keep your plant alive. As you drink throughout the day, your plant will level up, allowing you to choose new plants and unlockables. The app will also remind you every 2, 4, or 6 hours to drink water. It will also remind you when the plant is thirsty. This is good for those who want to create a regular drinking pattern.

While Plant Nanny is a great app for making healthy fun, it is also good for keeping track of water intake. The app features different measuring options to accurately keep track of how much water you drink a day, with bookmarks to save measurements. This is a great option for those who have to measure how much they drink a day.

I regularly use Plant Nanny, in order to be healthier, and to remind me to drink water. Like other college students, I have a busy schedule, and sometimes things skip my mind. One of those things is remembering to drink water. While it may seem like you drink water regularly, Plant Nanny will show you a very different picture.

The first few days I had Plant Nanny, I realized I drink a lot less water than I thought. So much less, in fact, that I ended up killing my first two plants within a week. While the game kindly reminds you to drink water, it is relentless when you don’t. Realizing my mistake, I started drinking more at meals and between classes. I am now on my third plant, which is thriving.

Plant Nanny is definitely an app I would recommend for people who want to be healthy, and for those who keep track of how much water they drink. It is especially good for college students, because often times drinking water just isn’t something students remember to do. It also promotes a healthy lifestyle, which is always encouraged. I would give this app 8 out of 10, because while it’s a great app, the downfall is people not remembering to actually use it. Plant Nanny simply encourages its users to drink more water in a fun and interactive way.
