Restaurant/Bar Review: Buffalo Alice

buffaloaliceBy Katie Copple– Located down on Sioux City’s Historic 4th Street, Buffalo Alice (BAs) is a popular hangout for locals, college students and families. BAs has been a staple in Siouxland for 15 years despite going through a relocation and new ownership.

Through it all, BAs has remained true to its original roots and continues to grow in popularity. With a lunch buffet during the week and some of the best handmade pizza in Sioux City, there is much more to this establishment than just the weekend bar scene.

Coming to BAs for nearly six years, Sioux City resident Ryan Dunkel says there are many things that keep bringing him back. “BAs is a laid back bar that serves a variety of age groups from college kids to empty nesters,” he said.

His friend Morgan Knuppel agrees. “It’s a fun place to hang out with friends. I love the music they play and I like how they sometimes have live music,” she said. “You can have conversations with your group as the music isn’t blaring like some other bars,” Dunkel added.

With two different “sides” to the establishment, BA’s stands out amongst the other bars on Historic Fourth. The front room of the bar, decorated with large placard signs and CDs stapled to the wall, has an easy feel to it. With large tables and a bar, friends can sit down and order their famous pizza and a few drinks.

“BAs pizza is some of the best in Siouxland,” Dunkel revealed. For Knuppel, it’s has to be a certain kind. “I love their pepperoni pizza! It’s always really cheesy and delicious. You can’t go wrong ordering the pepperoni!”

The other side of the building has more of the “bar” feel to it. With a long bar, tables and plenty of room to stand and talk, it’s frequently packed on a Friday or Saturday night. With a large beer, keg, wine and malt beverage menu, there is something for everyone.

The staff behind the bar is one of the reasons Dunkel keeps coming back. “The bartenders are always friendly and it doesn’t take more than a few minutes to get a drink,” he said. “BAs is one of the best bars in Siouxland if you are looking for a night to chill with your friends.”

If you aren’t part of the weekend night crowd, BA’s also has a lunch buffet Wednesday through Friday filled with pizza, pasta, fresh salad and warm brownies. Located at 1022 4th Street, Buffalo Alice is a great place for people of all ages.
