Mustangs Streak Comes to End

softballBy Darius Hicks–All good things must come to an end. After being swept by Hastings in a double header the Morningside softball teams winning streak ended at 16.

The Mustangs had plenty of chances to produce a win but never fully managed to take advantage of the opportunities that presented themselves. During the first game, Morningside led 6-2 in the bottom of the seventh but couldn’t close out the Broncos as they rallied to an 8-6 victory.

Spotty defense would prove pivotal in game two as the Mustangs committed three errors that led to five Bronco runs. Trailing 5-1, the Mustangs managed to come back to take a 7-5 lead into the bottom of the sixth inning. Morningside would fail to close out the Broncos once again, and Hastings would eventually win 8-6.

“We have to just finish games, we played really well in order to put ourselves in the position to win. We’ve just got to continue that play through out the entire game,” said senior Michelle Brockamp.

Although the Mustangs lost they still hold a two game lead over Northwestern in the conference standings and are the favorite to win. They currently have an overall record of 21-9 and a conference record of 11-3. Morningside will host Mount Marty in a GPAC doubleheader on Tuesday, April 22.
