Increase of Vehicle Break-Ins

imagesby Claire DeRoin–According to the Sioux City Police Department’s Facebook page, there has been a significant increase in burglaries in cars in Sioux City in the past week. Unidentified suspects have been breaking into automobiles and stealing cash, electronics, and other valuables.

Morningside is not immune to such events. A rash of parking lot break-ins occurred in the Spring of 2012. (You can find the CR’s coverage of this story here.)

The Sioux City Police advise citizens to keep their cars locked, remove any valuables from the car, and to park in well-lit areas. These tips also apply to parking on campus.

Although Morningside does not have security cameras, the security staff does drive through and patrol parking lots at various points throughout the day and overnight.

If you have any information or have experienced a break-in, contact campus security at 712-274-5234 or the Sioux City Police Department at 712-279-6960.
