Spanish social night a success

By Jazmine Dirks–
Mariachi music could be heard pulsating throughout the Morningside College campus this past Saturday as the Spanish Club held their first Spanish Social Night. There was music, dancing, and an assortment of spicy authentic Hispanic food to munch on. Approximately forty people attended the event that lasted from 8pm-10pm.

President of the Spanish Club, Ana Miranda, and Vice President, Kelci Teut, were happy with the event’s success.

“We would like to thank every one who came over and helped us out with this event! This was a new event on campus, and we (Spanish Club members) were ecstatic with the turn out and everyone’s participation throughout the dance! We would also like to thank Banda Proyección, the band member and Spanish Club officer Kim Mendoza for volunteering their night!  We look forward to doing more events like this in the future,” says Club President, Miranda.

They sell Tacos-in-a-Bag in Lewis Hall two or three times a semester raising money for underprivileged women they sponsor in Guatemala, some Film Fiestas showing Hispanic films, and they try to schedule a few speakers. This college club is very involved in the community, and although already consisting of around 20 members, is always welcoming any new members wanting to join.
