The last person I talked to was a caucasian female, she had dirty blonde hair that went just below her shoulders and was wearing a blue shirt and pants with gray and black speckles. She had on white sneakers and black low cut socks. She has brown eyes.  She was roughly 5’8″ and a skinny build.

In class we recieved a few options for food. I chose to select 1 donut hole and one pirouline. My donut hole is chocolate and covered in sugar, it appears to be quite unhealthy. It is roughly half an inch in diameter and quite soft. When biting into it, it melts apart in my mouth to create a near perfect bite mark. The pirouline are a white tubular wafer with what appears to be chocolate swirls around it. on the inside, it is filled with chocolate. They take a decent amount of effort to crack and pull apart. When you take a bite a rush of milk chocolate fills your mouth, which is the followed by a taste of the wafer.

Zach Hutchinson has a favorite Morningside memory of winning a 32 inch smart TV. He won this just last night by playing Bingo. Zach said “We were playing blackout for the TV when they called my last number and somone else also yelled BINGO, we ended up having a 2 out of 3 tournament of rock paper scissors to find the winner.” Zach ended up winning the first 2 games of rock paper scissors and many people were upset when he yelled bingo.

He is now looking to sell the TV since he has one already. He has an asking price of $100, and will take it from anyone. If he does not receive $100 dollars he said he will try to return it to target or best buy, if that doesn’t work he will just put it on eBay and see how much he can sell it for.

Pastor Andy Nelson, the new Morningside College Chaplain, had a very creatively bent paper clip that I could use. He was very welcoming when I asked the question stating that he almost always has one because he is always fidgeting when he is sitting and working. He said “I am similar to my father in that way, I always have to be messing with something and have something in my hands. When I go home and talk to my father there are always paper clips and pens sitting around the house because we will sit there for hours and talk and have something in our hands.” When you look at the paper he generously provided it resembles a weapon which I mentioned and he responded by saying “It kind of looks like a shank, who knows maybe it will be declared a hazardous weapon.”

This article discusses a new study that Boston University conducted. This study links  playing football at a younger age to more brain traumas. These traumas include behavioral and mood impairments. This study was conducted by studying 214 different players, some of whom only played high school, some through college, and a few into the NFL.

I think this lede is excellent it cuts straight to the point. It is a good lede because if you just see that and you have a child or plan to, it spikes your interest because you want to keep them safe. It also makes you wonder when they should start playing and how they should start playing football, and the best way for them to get introduced to the sport.

55 people died in plane crash in a residential area near Chicago’s Second City Airport. There were 61 people on board when the airplane crashed into a residential district in South Chicago. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) immediately dispatched investigators to the sight. 16 people were admitted to Holy Cross Hospital with injuries.

One passenger who was found dead was Rep. George W. Collins, D-III who was on his way to help organize a children’s Christmas party. Marvin Anderson, a surviving passenger, said “the last thing the pilot said to us was we are at 4000 feet and everything is going well.” One eyewitness said, “The plane kept coming lower and lower. I thought surely it would go back up in the air, but it kept coming down. I knew it would never make it to the airport and I was scared.”

United Airlines spokesman has said, “The plane, Flight 553, was due at Second City Airport at 2:30pm. The plane was approaching the airport with a 500 foot ceiling and one mile of visibility.” The flight’s final destination was in Omaha, Nebraska.

1 of 4 Armstong Aeronautical University students died while sailing at 5pm yesterday and capsized the boat. They were sailing in a 16 foot catamaran with no life jackets on, when it sprang a leak and capsized. The group clung to a pontoon overnight before swimming to shore, where 1 student had no pulse and was left behind. Before she went unconscious she was claiming to be attacked by a shark, though there was no sign of a shark when the others came to her aid.

It took over 6 hours for the students to swim back to shore which was 4 miles away. One of the students was sent to Halifax Hospital where he had been bitten by dozens of Portuguese Man-O-War.

North Korea’s missile testing has the world on edge and has led to a meeting with the United Nations.
One attack being discussed is an attack on Guam and if this were to happen whether the United Nations would respond peacefully or militaristically.
As reported by BBC News, the General Secretary of NATO is Jens Stoltenberg said, “What I will say is that we are now totally focused on how can we contribute to a peaceful solution of the conflict and press North Korea to stop its nuclear missile programs.”
There are attempts to scare North Korea into ending their nuclear programs by way of sanctions, China has already cut back drastically in the amount of coal that they buy from North Korea which is one of their major exports.
Another possible sanction being discussed at The United Nations is whether to sanction how much fuel North Korea is able to buy. According to The New York Times, the Trump Administration said, “[The United States] is warning that North Korea is “begging for war,” is pressing China and other members of the United Nations Security Council to cut off all oil and other fuels to the country.”
The leader in this push is The United States of America, however there are two United Nations leading countries pushing back who are China and Russia. If this vote where to pass on Monday, September 11, 2017 it will be harshest sanction ever passed by The United Nations. The vote is to cut 90% of the fuel available for purchase by North Korea, this however could cause a possible rift between China, who is North Korea’s biggest trading partner. Inside the White House, there is little desire that the drive to cut off North Korea’s fuel — which echoes a similar ban that the United States used to endeavor to urge Japan to change its behavior in 1941, preceding the assault on Pearl Harbor — will work in view of the Chinese hesitance to make that stride.

As reported by CNN, the vote came back as passing unanimously. The sanctions imposed were to cap North Korea’s oil imports, ban textile exports, end additional overseas laborer contracts, suppress smuggling efforts, stop joint ventures with other nations and sanction designated North Korean government entities, according to a US official familiar with negotiations.
Russia doesn’t trust sanctions are working, and President Vladimir Putin fears that cutting of the oil supply could hurt the North Korean citizens. Beijing and Moscow have asked for a stop that would end North Korean atomic rocket tests in return for the U.S. also, South Korea stopping their customary joint military activities, an idea the Trump organization rejected. Trump announced that North Korea would not be allowed shoot off its I.C.B.M.’s. — “It won’t occur!” he tweeted on Jan. 2 — and they were let go. He said the United States would bring “shoot and rage” toward the North in the event that it was undermined, and Sunday’s atomic test, asserted by the North to be a nuclear bomb, was joined by North Korea’s declaration that the weapon could be fitted on a rocket that could achieve the United States.

With North Korea’s recent missile testing the whole world has been looking for a way to contain the growing insecurity of a nuclear war. After two separate nuclear tests this month alone, the United Nations has convened a meeting to impose sanctions and determine how to respond to a possible attack.

One such scenario being discussed is about a possible attack on Guam, which is a territory of the United States, which holds a key military base in the Pacific. The part of the agreement is that being discussed is whether the attack on a territory of a country and not the actual country constitutes the assembling of the alliance against the attacking country, in this case North Korea. The General Secretary of NATO is Jens Stoltenberg said, “What I will say is that we are now totally focused on how can we contribute to a peaceful solution of the conflict and press North Korea to stop its nuclear missile programs.”

Principal vs Protest: The East High Story

10 upperclassmen and East High were punished for protesting last week. The alarms were sounded falsely three times last Wednesday by disgruntled students. It is said that there were ten upperclassmen responsible and they each were suspended for a week. These students were protesting the suspension of five other students who were caught smoking marijuana in the parking lot on school grounds. There was also a food fight in the cafeteria Tuesday, this food fight shut down the cafeteria for the rest of the day.

Principal Laura Vibelius said that there was general unrest around the whole school and its student body. She was quoted as “Not so much unrest because of suspensions, but because of summer vacation being so near.” She says that there should be no continuation of these incidents in the future.

News Comment Week #3

This article is about the Defensive Lineman Michael Bennett who plays for the Seattle Seahawks. He is known to be an activist for many different movements, and this article talks about his opinion on these issues and how he came to care about these issues. Some of the issues this article talks about it racism, heath issues (especially those directly attached to football), childhood obesity, and gender equality.

One thing that this article does really well is their lead, which is “Micheal Bennett is an activist disguised as a football player”. I think that is a really good lead because it makes you wonder what he does that makes him more activist than football player. It shows that he is more activist than football player, and he just uses his football player status to get a bigger profile to use for activism.

News Comment Week 2

My first impressions of this articled is how sick it makes me. The fact that people feel the need to lie to people to get their things when they claim to be helping the victims of this national disaster in every sense of the word. Its very sad that people feel that this is an okay thing to do, and they did put out a warning to people saying they should ask to see ID and badges from the agents. However that does not mean all the people see it, there are people who do not have internet or phone access to see these alerts or there are elderly people who do not have a smart phone or internet to see the updates coming up from them.

The Life of a Cutler

Steven Cutler is a student majoring in mass communications at Morningside College. He chose to come to Morningside because of the mass comms department and the opportunity to continue his sporting career. He is from Colo, Iowa and lived on a small family farm. This family farm has been on his dad’s side of the family since his grandfather, his mother’s side has lived in Council Bluffs. When he attended high school at Colo-Nesco High School, he participated in a number of sports including Baseball, Basketball, track and field, and cross country.

Here at Morningside College he participates in Track and Field and Cross Country. In his spare time between homework, practice, class, and meets he enjoys watching Netflix and sporting events. His favorite sporting events are baseball, basketball, boxing, and football. His favorite teams are the New York Yankees, Kansas City Chiefs, and Iowa State Cyclones. He likes the New York Yankees because his grandfather was a big fan and it has been passed down through the family ever since, he is a Kansas City Chiefs fan also because of family. He is a big Iowa State fan because he grew up 16 miles from the campus and regularly attended sporting events on their campus.

One memory that sticks out in Steven’s mind was that when he was 12 and at a campground with him family while camping, another young boy came up to him and threatened his life. Telling Steven that he was going to kill him with a Swiss army knife and a BB gun he brought along.  His favorite color is green because it is the color of John Deere which is the farm equipment his family owns and uses on their farm.
