Phone call delays flight

November 18th, 2009 by klg008

AirTran Airways says a flight from Atlanta to Houston was delayed due to a passenger refusing to end a phone call.  AirTran spokesman Christopher White said that after several failed attempts by a crew member to end the conversation, the captain returned the plane to the gate. The passenger eventually complied when he was asked to get off the plane, no charges were filed but the plane left 2 1/2 hours late for Houston.

This story brings up a number of questions. First, why didn’t the man get off the phone when asked right away? Was it an important phone call or did he just feel like being a jerk? I’ve never been on a plane and still I know that there is a rule that you must turn your cell phone off so it couldn’t be that he was ignorant, could it? And why did they wait so long for one passenger? If I was on that plane I would have demanded long before 2 1/2 hours that he either hang up or be kicked off the plane.

Manhunt continues…

November 18th, 2009 by klg008

Police continue the search for two armed men who say they took hostages at a  Florida T.J. Maxx store.

In Venice, Florida on Tuesday night, police reported that two armed men entered the store while 15 employees were working. All but six of the employees escaped before it became a hostage situation. The standoff lasted for three hours and there were no injuries reported. Although it was reported that the gunmen tied up the hostages and were making demands but those were unclear. The situation was resolved around midinight but as of 2a.m. the police and K-9 unite had no located the men responsible.

Although I think this story is told really well there is one part that still confuses me. The article says that the two armed men ran away from the store and now the police cannot find them. The article fails to tell how the two men escaped from the store without being noticed by police or any other person.

Pilots distracted by…laptops?

October 27th, 2009 by klg008

This video clip tells the story of two pilots on a flight to the Minneapolis airport but overshoot the landing strip by 150 miles. After some investigating it was discovered that the pilots had been checking the flight schedule on their own personal computers; thus the reason for the plane missing its mark.

I think this story is well done because their are several reporters, the video matches what they are talking about, the shot of the black box let’s viewers see what it is and the reporters let everyone watching know that the black box has record of what happened, in regards to the plane.

http://www.foxnews.com/video/index.html

The news article I found about the pilots flying past the airport is slightly different from what the video had to say.The article says that the pilots were suspected of falling asleep during the flight which is the reason they overshot the Minneapolis airport. Everything else that the article had to say was the same as the video.

There were claims by flight attendants that the pilots did not respond for a long time, only when they knocked on the cabin door did they finally answer.

As we can see there are different views from the video and the written article. But one reason I think that would be is that the pilots finally came out and said what they were doing. The reason the written article says they possibly were asleep is because it was written before the pilots said they were on the laptops, not sleeping.
