Paraphasing

John Dodge says, “We’ll be recording this spring!”

Don Juan, a band made up of Don Cooper and John Dodge claims they will be recording this spring and plans to be done by the end of the summer.

We love each other and still fight, that’s how it goes. “Writing songs together isn’t easy, but it’s worth it,” said Dodge.

Many critics dislike Don Juan because “they do nothing original, and when they do, it’s not worth hearing.”

Media Comment #8

Josh Brown is a kicker for the New York Giants and he being placed on the the NFL commissioner’s exempt list. If you are put on the exempt list, the commissioner has three weeks to make a final decision if Brown will ever play in the NFL again. Brown openly admitted to his team and to the police he has beat his wife in the past. My first reaction to this article, is wow, the man on a football team who does absolutely no hitting is the one actually hitting his wife, and that is just mind blowing to me. Also I have a very unpopular opinion on the whole off the field situations. People hate this players for what they do off the field, but that is not why they are in the organization, they are there because of their talents, and to not give them a second chance is ridiculous to me. Everybody deserves a second chance and I even believe Ray Rice does. If Ray Rice’s finance still married him after the situation, then I think the NFL can forgive him to. Same goes to Josh Brown, I understand what he did was wrong, but he has admittedly, served his time, now let him play football. Overall I thought the article was good and it can hit a lot of people in a lot of different ways, so its good. I even think, not sports fan will find interest in this article and it relates to the class with what we have done lately with written stories and video stories.

Story #2 Jose Fernandez with 2 Interviews

Lasting Legacy of Jose Fernandez

Jose Fernandez died September 25th in a boating accident with two friends early in the morning. Jose Fernandez was the Miami Marlin’s star young pitcher who was expecting to get paid a lot of money this offseason.

The death of Fernandez not only affected the Marlins organization but baseball as a whole. Fernandez was described as the spark in baseball. He was what baseball needed many said.

I sat down with baseball enthusiast Kyle Hiser to asked him what his reaction was when he heard the news about Fernandez

“When his teammates, manager, and general manager all broke down and cried at the press conference after the accident, it really hit me in the feels. I have never felt so much emotion in a two minute video I’ve watched on TV.”

Fernandez was known to play with a little swagger and cockiness. When he struck somebody out he would get fired up. And if somebody hit a homerun off of him, he expected that person to show off to him, and he would respectfully tip his cap and say you got me.

I also sat down with huge baseball fan Bryce Gustafson and asked him what he got out of the death of Fernandez.

“It really brings you down to Earth and it shows you that nobody is invincible. Not even one of the best young pitchers in the game was vulnerable.”

Many believe baseball is a dying sport. It is a sport where it is not as exciting to watch as a sport like football is. Baseball takes a lot longer, with a lot less exciting plays. And baseball plays six out of every seven days. Which means you don’t have to wait a week every time you want to watch your team play.

Fernandez played baseball like a little kid. He had a ton of excitement when things were going well, and would take losses and bad performances hard. Fernandez played the game like everybody should according to many baseball players including Washington Nationals outfielder, Bryce Harper.

Hiser went on to say, “I was crushed. He was a phenom and has so much talent and potential. I was most hit by his love for the game how he played with charisma and excitement.”

Fernandez’s death made us remember that it is just a game, but it’s a fun game. Fernandez by no means a hall of famer, but his lasting legacy of the way he played the game will forever be remembered as one that everybody should play with.

Print/Video Comparision

I looked at a video and print stories for Jose Fernandez. They both really describe what Jose Fernandez was about and talked about how he had a legacy on the sport. In the print story, it talks about what Fernandez did that made him the way he was and that resulted in why so many people loved to watch him play. In the video story, it talked about how he played with such passion and flare, and it also showed him doing some of his best plays or most emotional plays. The best was a video of him catching a line drive that went right to the him hard up the middle and he snagged it and got an exciting look on his face as he stared down Troy Tulowitzki, the man who hit the ball. Tulowitzki looked at Fernandez and said “did you really catch that?” Fernandez looked at him and yelled “yup.” Seeing this side of Fernandez makes the print stories almost useless unless you want to hear all the background of him, like some articles do about his death. Overall I think that video is better for entertainment, but I believe that print is better for knowledge.

News Comment #7

Madison Bumgarner faced the New York Mets last night. And Bumgarner was Bumgarner. Bumgarner was his typically October self. He went out and threw 9 shutout innings, giving up just 4 hits in a winner takes all playoff game in a 3-0 win over the Mets. The article goes on to attempt to explain how he has been so good and effective, especially in the postseason. His teammates go on to explain that he is unexplainable. He is a legend and there is no doubt about it. You can’t explain how he does it, but he does it consistently. One thing that bother me in this article was the use of “verrry.” They used that to describe how good he has been, and I think the author could of done it a lot better. Overall this was a good article and some of the stats within blew my mind about how he is in the postseason, and I don’t really get to surprised by too many things.
