Bass Field

September 10th, 2012

Bass field might just seem like a useless grass field that, for some reason, gets watered five times a day but to a select few people it’s a place to escape from the constant stress of school and work. The field allows you to stretch your legs like a gazelle and, for the moment, relax and forget about the Physics test that you have to take at 8 am.

If you live in Dimmitt or the Plex you might not know why Bass field is always cut to a fine trim and smelling like fresh cut grass. But to the people living in Roadmen and the apartments Bass Field is in their backyard and they know all about the amazing activities that happen there.  The early morning dew on the field will leave your feet soaked to the bone but for those brave, or tardy, souls it might be worth it when you only have a few minutes to get to class.

Students take advantage of the pristine field any time they have some free time between classes and studying.  It’s where students can go and play a small or big sweaty game of ultimate Frisbee or play intramurals.

When the sun starts to set, a herd of people comes out for relief from schoolwork. Around 5pm to dark the field is filled will all kinds of people and they are one of the friendliest people at Morningside College. They are always asking people that are walking down the sidewalk to come join them to play.  Even though they might not know the person the players are always welcoming new people. The field is home both to students that spontaneously put together pick-up games as well as scheduled competitive intramurals. One student, and a close friend of mine, Jesse LaFramboise spends his free time on Bass field to escape from school. He said “it a nice play to go to clear my head after homework and meet new friends.”

If you live in Roadman or the apartments, during intramural matches you can hear the cheering of spectators and the players encouraging each other.  To most people Bass field is just a waste of space but to some students it’s a place where they can enjoy the outdoors and have fun with their friends.

Katie Coppla

September 6th, 2012

New Lede

19 year old girl from a small town finally moves to the big city to achieve a better life.

This biography about Katie Coppla is unique and unmatched by any other biography that I’ve read.  Katie had humble beginnings.  She was born in good old Dakota City, Nebraska and didn’t move out of her house until she left for college. Since Katie has never lived in another home she really cherishes it and would not trade it for anything.  And Morningside College is the only other place she has lived in her life. So every place she goes is a new experience for her.  While Katie might like these new locations and places of residence, she will never forget her first house.

Katie Coppla is a sophomore at Morningside College and is studying Mass Communications.  She really enjoys all of the different aspects in the Mass Communication department but one stands out more then the rest.  She loves sports broadcasting and would like to do something in that field when she graduates with a Mass Communication major.  Even with her passion for sports broadcasting and all the activates that Mass Comm. Department has she still finds time to do her two favorite things, reading and volleyball.

Katie is a very active volleyball player and coach.  She helps coach the North Sioux City High School girl’s volleyball team and loves it.  Her favorite experience associated with her volleyball career was getting the chance to play with Misty May Turner, a three time gold medalist in the Olympics.

Somewhere in between the volleyball and sports broadcasting Katie dreams about going to London, England.  She would love to tour the city and see the rich history that it has to hold.  Next to England, Katie would like to travel to New York City and Washington D.C. to experience all of American history that it has to offer. This short and unique biography of Katie Coppla sums up her life and explains some of her interests as well as details some over her future goals.

Navy Seal Endangers His Own

September 6th, 2012

Former Navy Seal puts himself and his brothers in arms at risk of being targeted by terrorist. Former Seal wrote a book explaining his first hand account about the Bin Laden raid and may have revealed top secret information from intelligence to special warfare communities.  If top-secret information is leaked from the book he could be seeing some hard times ahead of him.

I believe this is news worthy because this book could jeopardize national security and puts American lives at risk. Even though everyone in the United States has the right of free speech but it is a different story when national security is at risk. The government has the right to take all your revenue and send you to jail time if you are risking American lives and national security. Americans should know that they are safe from any terrorist attack and the government is going to keep it that way.
