    Think of broadcast stories as needing to relay news the same as print, Elliott. One of the differences, though, is the throwaway/soft lede. Catch my attention. Yes, there was a shooting, but 5 pm is not the most important fact.

    After the throwaway, give me the news lede: Laurette’s in the hospital, Kenny’s on the run. THEN go into a recap of events and the recorded quotes you have collected.

    Introduce the speaker BEFORE the recording so listeners know who is speaking. The intro of Marilyn is good. But then bring it back to you to close it out. Don’t end on a quote.
