Morningside College Trivia

Here’s the answer to last month’s trivia question.  The quote: “Subject to editorial fallibility, the best will be printed”  appeared in the 1938 issue of The Manuscript. Today it is called The Kiosk.

Congratulations to Tasha Lechtenberg, Patricia Nieland, Allison Larson, Bette Day Stern, Lynne Boulden and Nicole Knowles.

Here’s this month’s trivia question. This was the only instructional building completed before 1900 in the Morningside College Historical District. What was it originally identified as and what is its name today?

The first 10 individuals with correct answers will be given a prize.

It almost has to be the building now known as Charles City College Hall. I don’t know what it was originally called, but at one point it was the Music Conservatory. I also remember stories about it serving as a dining hall and dormitories.

The building was built and housed The University of the Northwest from 1890 to 1894; Morningside College was founded in 1894 — and it was the first campus building for Morningside — the building was known as Charles City College Building, and housed the Morningside Conservatory of Music. Charles City College closed in 1914 and merged with Morningside. The building suffered through a terrible fire in 1914 and had to be re-built.
